Here's when to press play on every iconic song to ensure the best New Year's Eve ever

Picking a perfect song to play at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve is hard. Iron Maiden's "2 Minutes to Midnight" aged out 20 years ago, and "Auld Lang Syne" has long passed into the land of cliché.

One Reddit user came up with a better idea: How about if the moment of a song played during the stroke of midnight? Specifically, the transition part of Frank Ocean's "Nights."

"If you start listening to 'Nights' on December 31st at 11:56:30pm, the transition in the song will be perfectly [synced] with the switch from 2017 to 2018, at midnight," tomboytom posted in the Frank Ocean subreddit. "Nice way to end/start the year."

The post inspired a meme, with other songs and timing strategies.

A lot of songs have symbolic meanings.

Some people wer also inspired by TV episodes instead of songs.

Even Phil Collins got in on the action.
