On December 17, 2019, the United States House Committee on Ethics launched a continuing investigation of Trahan after congressional investigators found “substantial reason to believe” that she violated campaign finance laws in her election win in 2018.

Trahan declared her candidacy in October 2017 for the November 2018 House election to succeed Niki Tsongas, the retiring Representative. Tsongas succeeded Trahan’s former boss Meehan in a 2007 special electoral (the district was renumbered to the 5th District following the 2010 census).

After graduating from college, Trahan was employed by Marty Meehan (a member of the United States House of Representatives in Massachusetts’ 5th congressional district), and eventually became his chief of staff. Trahan, who was a Cambridge-based marketing software firm, left the public sector in 2005 to join ChoiceStream. She was appointed CEO of Concire Leadership Institute.
